STARGAZING EVENING
AT GREAT FESTIVAL PARK
Primary Date: Friday, May 13th at 8:00pm
Weather Date: Friday, May 20th at 8:00pm
Join us for an interesting evening searching the heavens. Naturally, weather conditions will dictate the experience. If you plan to attend, these apps can be downloaded to tablets or smartphones: Skyview (Free) or Skywalk ($2.99). There are many more apps in the astronomy search area on either the Android or IOS based. The moon will be about at its first quarter so it shouldn’t affect our “Seeing” too much. Chris Maher and his team will bring several large telescopes, including a 10” Dobsonian which is a very large tube that basically sits on a ground mount and an way easy for kids to view. Mars and Saturn and the latter is the most impressive of all of the planets and should be an option for viewing. Anyone wishing to bring observing items are encouraged as well. Fun to spread the assets so everyone gets an idea of the different types of telescopes. Chris can also used discuss the many options of instruments as well as the sky/universe to explore. Recommended to bring folding chairs and blankets. One or two two or three step platform ladders would be helpful if available. Bottled water provided. Flashlights will be useful and if anyone has one with a red lens, will help to keep it as dark as possible.
